Southport United vs Middle Park FC (1-3)
Second last match for the season, third last on the ladder. Nothing to lose.
Coach's words: "just go have some fun".
Weather: very, very cold and very, very raining (as per training Thursday night).
First goal: ball released by the central midfielder to the overlapping right full-back, drive to the by-line (as per training Thursday night), cross to back post. Finished by the Striker. 1-0.
Second goal: according to the referee, MPFC centre back, handled the ball in the penalty area. Penalty given. 1-1. Enough said.
Half time.
Third goal: huge goal kick by the 'Keeper, the Striker runs through collects the loose ball, dribbles round a defender and cooly slots it home. 2-1.
Fourth goal: hard work to win the ball by the midfield results in the right full back being released in the MPFC attacking half. Helpful advice given by the coach "drive to the box!!". Direction taken, drew the defender, centred ball to on-rushing attacking midfielder, controls, shoots, scores. 3-1.
Notes:
1. Excellent team performance, played in good spirits.
2. At times, while charging around in the attacking half, the right full-back neglected some defensive duties. The sturdy goalkeeping and defense defused some potentially difficult situations...
3. Performance encouraged by the 'keeper's dedicated spectators - thanks for the support!!!
